It’s actually a win-win for the Liberals which combines their two great loves: ensuring tax cuts for the rich and ripping up national heritage.
Tasmania is about to become the home to all of Australia’s icons as the Morrison Government shows it will do whatever it takes to sell out the national interest.
You may remember Lambie’s stern warning to the Prime Minister on election night that getting legislation through would be expensive for the government but great for Tassie.
Few anticipated that so soon after the election, the Government would already be promising to dig up both Bondi Beach and The Blue Mountains and ship them to Hobart in exchange for Lambie’s support for their tax package.
There are mixed consequences of this deal to pass $158bn in tax cuts by moving all tourist attractions to Tasmania.
On the one hand the deal will permanently scar a variety of Australian landscapes, further entrench gross wealth inequality, and cripple any future national response to inevitable economic crisis
On the other, foodies will enjoy the fact that Tasmania will be renamed the Pork-and-Apple Isle.
