The federal government has just signed off on a massive open-cut coal mine in the heart of the nation’s capital. Parliament will rise at the end of this week and reconvene in 2017 in a shed down the deepest darkest coal pit.
The PM has allayed the fears of those who question the bulldozing of Australia’s main symbol of democracy: 'Like a termite colony we’ve been hollowing out its foundations for years. Best to tear it all down and bring on something that’s actually good for humanity'.
The atmosphere around Canberra is expected to become considerably less toxic.
