David Cameron has a lot to answer for, but so do all conservative politicians throughout history.
The past three years of Brexit “news” stories can be distilled into one totally unsurprising non-news story. Conservative politicians have actively set about destroying an entire country for their own self-preservation.
The diabolical Brexit mess all kicked off back in January 2013, when Prime Minister David Cameron promised that if the Tories won a parliamentary majority at the 2015 general election, he would call a referendum. Following his decision to do exactly that in February 2016, The Independent called it “the most suicidal manoeuvre since the Light Brigade charged on and on with heroic futility, and into the Valley of Death”, an “act of indescribably selfish recklessness.” and described him as a “master butcher of this national self-mutilation”.
Cameron called the referendum to prevent Conservative voters defecting to the anti-EU UK Independence Party. It was also an attempt to appease particularly right-wing elements of his own party, which failed dismally. Apparently, former Australian Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull learned everything he knows from the former British Prime Minister.
Once the vote was lost to Leave forces, Cameron abandoned the sinking ship after deliberately steering it towards a massive iceberg. He recently said he did not regret calling the referendum. He has been described as playing a “starring role in history as the Prime Minister who killed his country”, forever known as “the assassin of the United Kingdom”.
In summary, “He called it to save his job. And no greater love hath no man, to adapt Jeremy Thorpe, than that he lay down his country for his political life”.
Since then, Prime Minister Theresa May has spent two years using Brexit as cover for failing to address issues plaguing the UK, such as education funding shortages, poverty and environmental destruction.
Meanwhile a politician who actually cares more about the working class than his own political career, Jeremy Corbyn, said:
“We believe that the real divide in our society is not between people who voted yes or no for [Scottish] independence. It’s not between people who voted to remain or to leave the EU,” he told party members in Dundee. “The real divide is between the many – who do the work, create the wealth and pay their taxes – and the few, who set the rules, reap the rewards, and dodge their taxes. So let me spell it out: our mission is to back the working class, in all its diversity. And that’s what drives our approach to Brexit.”
In contrast, the predictably selfish actions of UK Conservatives over the past three years, as well as all the years going back to their founding in 1834, accords with the analysis of scientists who say Vast Deserts And Absence Of Life May Indicate Mars Was Once Run By Conservatives.
