What if we imagined Earth was as important as a church?
Environmental activists have tried to capitalise on the emotional reaction across the globe to the Notre Dame fire by encouraging people to imagine the possibility that a planetary inferno is also worthy of some attention.
The original image, called Earthrise, was taken by astronaut William Anders on December 24, 1968, and has been described as “the most influential environmental photograph ever taken”.
The new image, called Churchrise, was altered by 350.org activists in the hope that people and their governments could give even half the number of shits they give about the Notre Dame Cathedral and donate them to the issue of climate apocalypse.
While many extraordinary humans like Greta Thunberg, George Monbiot, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, and Naomi Klein, as well as the kids on climate strikes and the adults who have joined Extinction Rebellion are concerned about the fire at Notre Dame, they are also a bit worried about the potential loss of most life on Earth.
