Nation’s media offers shocking endorsement of the status quo.
In a development that has absolutely floored students of Australian politics, Labor insiders have consulted with the nation’s journalists to offer a refreshing embrace of the existing order.
For the establishment, it was clearly the party’s overly ambitious agenda of hedging their bets on Adani and endorsing massive new gas fields while using the phrase climate emergency, promising to torture refugees humanely, and waxing lyrical about fairness while being non-committal about Newstart, that led to their defeat.
According to these master tacticians, Labor must steadfastly ignore the success of figures like Bernie Sanders and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and clear lessons about electing an inspiring leader who can weave a compelling progressive narrative. Instead they must hastily retreat into the Liberal Party impressionism which has worked out so well for this country over the last two decades.
Fortunately for the left, there are no looming ecological or climate crises to worry about so we can afford to sit back and watch the Labor Party spend the next two decades banging their heads against a brick wall.
