Population policy analysts have slammed the government’s new approach to reduce the immigration cap from 190,000 to 160,000 people per year.
The Guardian quoted demographer Liz Allen describing the new policy as “woeful”:
“What we’ve got is same old, disguised as something innovative and strategic for our future,” Allen said on Wednesday. “Immigration is scapegoated as Australia’s problem when immigration is Australia’s solution”.
She then added “The real cause of congestion in our major cities is the migration of conservatives from overprivileged enclaves in inner Sydney and Melbourne into frontbench positions where their whole raison dêtre is to give the public teat mastitis, filter as much taxpayer cash into the coffers of their corporate mates, and do fuck all about planning for sensible public infrastructure.”
