Inspired by the original witch-hunts of Medieval Europe and designed as a tribute to the well-illustrated placard of misogyny pictured above, Tony Abbott has invented a new ministerial portfolio to formalise his relationship with the ABC.
It’s a timely move to head off concerns inside the Coalition that attacks on Muslims, asylum seekers, unions and the national broadcaster have been a bit haphazard of late, and could be better orchestrated.
The new ministry has already begun the mass production of moral panic by rolling out phrases like “betrayed the nation”, “whose side are you on”, “lefty lynch mob”, “heads should roll” and “burn the witch”.
When asked why he gave himself the portfolio rather than Malcom Turnbull or Scott Morrison, Abbott said "Who better as Minister For Witch-Hunts than the Minister For Women?!"
History is expected to fondly remember the Coalition government, like it does all witch-hunt perpetrators.
