Creativity Tsar George Brandis has today used a drawing by a traumatised child in detention to launch his vision for the future of the arts in Australia. The choice of image is a poignant summation of the Attorney General’s attitude to the performing arts.
Brandis has actually said “The arts are about a nation’s identity...they are part of a nation’s branding in the world”. By “branding”, he of course meant that all arts projects in Australia will now require the personal “Brandis” go ahead.
What better way to define brand Australia than with an image of a depressed child imprisoned by our government?
