“We face a serious crisis and the only thing for it is a few photos of me pretending to care”.
Scott Morrison has leapt into action since returning from his Hawaii getaway, pulling out all the stops to tackle the nation’s greatest emergency from his perspective: his flagging popularity.
As the country begs him to take serious climate action to prevent us all being boiled alive, as former fire chiefs urge him to call a summit to tackle the ongoing bushfire crisis head on, and as firefighting communities across the nation call for more resources, Mr Morrison has responded by giving them what they really need: photos of him appearing to do things.
While his empathy consultant quit last week out of a sense of futility, his facial expression coach has been working overtime to help the PM contort his facial muscles into a simulacrum of concern.
