The crossbench senator has been condemned for stealing all his best lines from Howard, Abbott, Turnbull, Dutton and Himmler.
Judging by the maiden speech of Fraser Anning to the Senate yesterday, it’s not only the wives of white supremacists who plagiarise. After spending 20 years deploying tactical racism against Muslim Australians, senior Liberals have denounced crossbench senator Fraser Anning for having the temerity to use this same strategy without giving due credit.
The speech, entitled Die Endlösung der Moslemischen Frage, was criticised in the Guardian for invoking the language of the Nazi party "used to order the murder of millions of Jews, LGBTI people, migrants and dissenters".
Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull has roundly condemned Anning, saying "What’s really upsetting about the speech is the lack of common courtesy in acknowledging the Liberal Party’s pivotal role in making it possible".
He added "Our efforts to desensitise Australians to increasingly racist, incendiary and dangerous propaganda have been prolonged and incremental and it’s important to recognise that fact".
“Prolonged and incremental” also happen to be the words historian Christopher Browning used to describe the decision-making process around the Final Solution to the Jewish Question.
