Disaster capitalists are especially excited for this upcoming work of fantasy non-fiction.
Prime Minister Scott Morrison has commenced writing a memoir of his own, hot on the heels of the release of Malcolm Turnbull’s fascinating psychological study of the phenomenon of blame shifting.
Mr Morrison was given the idea of writing his own political memoir after Mr Turnbull asked him to give a testimonial for his new book: “This is my leader and I’m ambitious for him”.
The title “The Scott Doctrine” came to him when Greens Leader Adam Bandt told him in a meeting about the thesis of Naomi Klein’s 2007 classic: The Shock Doctrine: The Rise of Disaster Capitalism.
When Bandt explained how neoliberals serially use national crises to implement “shock therapy”, with unpopular policies like company tax cuts and IR “reforms” being rammed through while citizens are too distracted and demoralised to resist effectively, Morrison knew the pun-based title would perfectly sum up both his narcissism and political philosophy.
