Won’t somebody think of all the great jobs and growth in disaster recovery?
In one of the most innovative examples of federal government leadership, Australia’s Environment Minister Greg Hunt has applauded Queensland premier Annastacia Palaszczuk’s decision to create thousands of new disaster management jobs with her brave Global Warming Acceleration Program (GWAP).
By approving leases for the Carmichael coal mine and in doing so generate four times the emissions of New Zealand for the next 60 years, Palaszczuk has locked in hundreds of thousands of new emergency service and disaster management jobs in coming years.
In response, the Minister said “Many experts think more floods, bushfires, cyclones, the death of the Great Barrier Reef, metres of sea level rise, mass inland migration from Australia's coastal cities and the decimation of life on Earth are somehow ‘bad things’. Have these so called ‘experts’ even seen the figures on how many new jobs these disasters will create? It’s just so short-sighted.”
