Critics argue that you could celebrate Australian jingoism on literally any other day of the year. It might still be ugly, but at least you wouldn’t needlessly offend 3% of the Australian population and arrogantly assume that your entitled intransigence trumps common decency and cultural sensitivity.

Challenged about the hypocrisy of defending the 26th January as Australia’s actual national celebration while taking issue with hypothetical Indigenous celebrations on Anzac Day, the PM retorted “Yeah but that’s different. Most Anzacs were white.”
