Well there’s no questioning Turnbull’s commitment to climate action now. After offering the Pacific Islands 75 cents to help them mitigate the climate damage that Australia has helped cause, Turnbull is asking world leaders to commit an additional $6.75 to the Pacific Climate Fund.
Some thought his statements about coal, his endorsement of paltry emissions targets and a ‘bullshit’ direct action policy made the Prime Minister a climate turncoat. Not me. I always thought Turnbull was God’s gift to ambitious climate action, and now we’ve got solid evidence.
Some journalists have the temerity to suggest the money offered to the Pacific Islands is dwarfed by the $4 billion in subsidies given by the federal government to the fossil fuel industry each year. Prime Minister Turnbull has some advice for these journalists: "write more stories on how there's never been a more exciting time to be an Australian. Just leave out the bits about what a terrifying time it is to be a Pacific Islander."
