The assault victim from the Fremantle Dockers demonstrated a disgusting lack of mindfulness about his surroundings.
Chief of Victorian Police Graham Ashton has weighed into the debate about Andrew Gaff’s eight week suspension for punching Andrew Brayshaw in the face by criticising the young assault victim for not being mindful of his surroundings.
Ashton said “My message is that AFL players need to be aware of their own personal security. Make sure you have situational awareness, that you’re aware of your surroundings. If you’re a Freemantle Dockers mid-fielder and you’ve got a mobile phone carry it and if you’ve got any concerns, call police.”
Of course, Ashton hasn’t been the only police commissioner to blame Brayshaw for getting his jaw broken and not being able to eat solid food for a month.
39 women have been murdered this year and this is how nsw police decides to address it. many of these women were killed by men they knew. the women who have been assaulted and killed are NOT at fault. disgusting, blatant victim blaming from those who are supposed to keep us safe. pic.twitter.com/I1aRf8z9np

The NSW Police Commissioner also shared his advice, saying “I think this incident is unrelated to a toxic public culture which models and trivialises violence by portraying it as a thrilling form of entertainment for millions of men, but due to the fact that Andrew Brayshaw failed to tell his friend his meeting place.”
