Beware the invented construct of seriously ill refugees stuck on Manus or Nauru who have been convicted but not yet sentenced for paedophilia. Don’t worry about the convicted paedophiles we’re trying to set free without punishment here in Australia.
In the wake of Cardinal George Pell’s conviction for one charge of sexually penetrating a child under 16 and four charges of an indecent act with a child under 16, the best and brightest Australian conservatives, including John Howard, Tony Abbott, Miranda Devine, and Andrew Bolt, have this week called for sweeping reform of the nation’s legal system. The new system would operate by the fundamental principle “innocent until proven guilty but still innocent if you’re mates with John Howard”.
Some have noticed the contrast between last week’s testeria about fictional refugee paedophiles overrunning the country and this week’s laissez faire attitude to an actual convicted paedophile.
Others have noted that Howard is happy to send in the military for fabricated abuse by the First Australians but also happy to send in a character reference for the first Australian to both serve as the Vatican’s treasurer and be convicted of child sexual abuse. Although if you’re going to repeatedly engage in human rights abuses by invading Iraq, demonising refugees and suspending the Racial Discrimination Act in Aboriginal communities all based on lies, you may as well tell a few more lies for a fellow who repeatedly engages in child sexual abuse.
Still other Australians are now suddenly re-evaluating the journalism of Andrew Bolt and Miranda Devine. For many who’ve spent years admiring their columns for speaking truth to power, jumping to the defence of the world's most influential convicted paedophile seems totally out of character.
Now that Australian conservatives have far outstripped even their own personal bests for hypocrisy, abuse of power, moral perversion and horrendous double-standards, Satan announced via Twitter that he’s finished preparing a special place in hell for the lot of them.
