Those lifelong parliamentary pensions are not looking so secure after all.
Greens Leader Richard Di Natale says the party will introduce laws to force any politician claiming not to be a white supremacist, despite consistent actions to the contrary, to prove it with a DNA test in a bid to stop “welfare rorters”.
"Australians are sick and tired of seeing white politicians declaring themselves not to be eugenicists, when clearly they have no recognisable background as such and are doing it solely to qualify for extra money," The Greens policy statement says.
Mr Di Natale said under the current system of self-identification, "rorters and opportunists were masquerading as democratic representatives" and accessing special programs and welfare benefits.
He said the minor party's proposed law would "weed out" rorters and create a more "honest and fair" political system.
“Everybody hates a welfare rorter, especially in the Liberal, National, and One Nation parties. Any waste of taxpayer funds on these politicians is highly disrespectful to genuine, non-white-supremacist representatives," the policy statement says.
"It weakens the integrity of their political group and takes money away from people in genuine need."
