It’ll be so much easier to avoid public outcry about advertising on the Opera House when it’s gone.
Last Thursday Gladys Berejiklian avoided the word stadium like the plague. Last Friday she shifted course and went out to Bankwest Stadium in Parramatta and couldn’t use the word stadium more if she tried. Now she’s stepped up her pro-stadiums rhetoric by announcing that, if re-elected, a NSW Liberal Government will demolish the Opera House and replace it with a brand spanking new stadium.
Asked to justify the controversial move, the NSW Premier cited concerns that the Opera House didn’t have enough facilities for the ultra-rich, as well as frustration that the public acted like there was something wrong with transforming a revered cultural institution into a billboard for horse-racing.
“Last year we couldn’t even have one billboard at Bennelong Point without causing a fuss. I’m very proud that a vote for me on March 23 will deliver a new stadium on the site with hundreds of billboards advertising everything from Sportsbet to Centrebet to TAB to BetEasy to Bet365.”
“Let’s get it done NSW.”
