If only he wasn’t so lazy.

Qantas CEO and comic book super villain Alan Joyce has been slammed by unions after paying himself $18mn a year but depriving his 20,000 workers of their income.

Fans of the ruthless multimillionaire point to how he generously took a $6mn paycut after charitably pocketing a substantial portion of the Government’s $715mn airline bailout package. His defenders are concerned about how his $18mn annual salary will cover the weekly groceries.

The tens of thousands of workers who have just been stood down are more critical, probably because now they are unfairly biased against him. They say that if Joyce is so worried about the impact of structural conditions on his livelihood, maybe he should just work harder.
