As we’ve learnt ever since 1975, the smart play is not to build our own power through unions and mass social movements, but to disempower ourselves and cling to the futile hope that Labor will, of their own accord, preference workers over capital.

New leader Anthony Albanese has taken the bold step of signing a ginormous centrist stone tablet at the first post-election Labor caucus meeting.

It’s an especially bold move because it’s the same strategy Ed Miliband tried in 2015 before leading his party their worst defeat since 1983, turning his stone tablet into a tombstone for UK Labour in the process, before Jeremy “The Phoenix” Corbyn rose from the grave.

In recent days Albanese has said Adani is “not up to government, it’s markets”, told colleagues about “the need to talk about aspiration”, his desire to “appeal to people who are successful”, said that “Labor supports economic growth as the core part of our agenda”, and emphasised connections with corporate Australia.

According to the “authentic leftwinger who loves fighting tories”, government isn’t in fact about government, it’s about markets. Values, principles, and democracy are also for sale to the highest bidder.

Meanwhile deputy leader Richard Marles has thrown his weight behind the expansion of the Australian War Memorial to encompass the entire Milky Way.

This is going to be a painful three years. https://t.co/s2b2t7aWnv

Evidently, Labor strategists are 100% committed to joining Ed Miliband in the graveyard of Western democracy.

It’s up to the half of Australians who oppose Kamikaze capitalism to decide whether they’d like to follow Labor into the after-life or plant, nurture and grow their own inspirational alternatives.
