What our struggling economy really needs is a maniacal fixation on a self-sabotaging surplus.

God’s gift to recessions, Scott Morrison, has in his great and unmatched wisdom decided the best way to fire up a sluggish economy is to slow it down.

According to Greg Jericho writing in The Guardian, “Inflation barely has a pulse, the overall economy is growing slower than it has since 2001, and the private sector is growing slower than at any time since the 1990s recession” and there have been “five years of falling living standards”.

He also writes “the only reason for a budget surplus is to slow the economy in order to control inflation.”

Thankfully for the lucky country, we have a Prime Minister who cares more about marketing than he does about the lives of 25 million Australians.
