The announcement of an impeachment inquiry all but guarantees that the Biden family’s dodgy dealings in the Ukraine will be front and centre in the public imagination over the next year, sucking as much oxygen as possible away from effective campaigning for a Green New Deal and Medicare-for-all. As a result, the DNC is reassuring voters that while a slow-burning corruption scandal may not have worked for Hillary in 2016, it’s bound to play well for Biden in 2020.

After all, why choose an authentic, scandal-free anti-establishment candidate who genuinely represents workers and gives humanity a realistic hope of avoiding annihilation, when you can select a jelly-brained, baggage-laden, scandal-ridden establishment candidate who will definitely lose the election?
