The compassion consultant tried to explain that all human beings are worthy of respect and dignity but when that wasn’t getting through she reminded the PM that the Mallacoota evacuees were mostly white.
Scott Morrison’s empathy coach has returned from three months of stress leave for a few hours work, only to head home early for another three-month stint of stress leave.
The half-day of work wedged between long-term breaks for psychological trauma was spent on an elaborate game of charades for the word “futility” by workshopping ways for the PM to show genuine compassion for bushfire victims.
Somewhat rejuvenated from her three-month rest, the empathy coach optimistically thought that exposing the PM to a series of graphic clips of the awful suffering of his fellow Australians might engender some kind of emotional response.
Instead, acutely aware that his Daggy Dad schtick and outright lying have not stemmed the bleeding of his political capital, the PM responded with the question “We’ve conditioned Australians to hate boat people, can’t we weaponise that hate somehow?”
