The Government’s soft on climate change approach has been held responsible for this unprecedented threat to national security.

Nearly seven years of the Coalition Government’s weak stance on climate breakdown has undermined the safety of Australians, according to everyone not on the payroll of the fossil fuel industry or Rupert Murdoch.

There is a clear connection between the policy failures of this Tony Abbott, Malcolm Turnbull, and Scott Morrison, and the dramatic rise in the number of boat people in recent days. This week alone 1,205 boat people packed aboard HMAS Choules arrived in the Victorian port of Hastings, far more than every arrived in any boat under Labor.

With more than 14.5 million acres, 18 lives, and more than 1000 homes lost since September, a long way to go in this emergency, and even worse fire conditions predicted for the future, the Morrison Government must be held accountable for compromising the safety and security of the Australian people.
