If only The Greens hadn’t opposed the CPRS in 2009 and negotiated a functional emissions trading scheme under Gillard, it’s pretty clear World War II, JFK’s assassination, the AIDS epidemic, and COVID-19 would also have been avoided.
Reflecting on The Greens basically committing genocide by voting against Labor’s Carbon Pollution Reduction Scheme (CPRS), former Labor Minister for Energy and Climate Change Greg Combet has pointed out on Four Corners that President Kennedy, Martin Luther King Jnr, Malcolm X, and Jesus Christ, would all be alive today if it wasn’t for their extremist commitment to climate action in line with the science.
“A lot of people associate The Black Death, which killed about 200 million people in Europe and Asia in the 1300s, with bacteria carried by rats and fleas. This is nonsense. It was actually The Greens foolhardy opposition to the CPRS in 2009”, Ms Wong said.
“There’s all this wild speculation that the current mass extinction event has something to do with our ecocidal economic system, a five-decade campaign by the fossil fuel industry to sabotage climate action, the moral bankruptcy of the Murdoch Press, and the selfishness, greed, corruption, and cowardice of conservative politicians.”, Mr Combet said.
“What rot. It all comes down to the efforts of a minor Australian Political Party to demand ambitious climate action a decade ago.”
