After Peter Dutton’s “Zany Climate Comedy Hour” flopped, you’d think Julie Bishop would have learned the right lesson. Sadly for comedy and Pacific Island fans everywhere, she has instead decided to continue mining human suffering for comic gold.
Following Dutton’s comic escapades, Bishop penned one hour of laughs at the expense of those terrified of losing their homelands in coming years. Her debut stand-up show at Paris’s top comedy club, SoGymnase, opened last night and apart from some guffaws in the front row from a few men in blue ties, the crowd and critics were less than impressed.
The biggest laughs of the night came when Bishop tried her more absurdist material: “The Australian government is committed to reducing our carbon emissions”.
