Not a lifetime ban?
The Liberal Party, commonly called the Manchester City of Australian politics, has been banned from government for the next two years and fined $30m after they were found to have seriously misled the Australian people and broken financial fair play rules.
While some say the severity of the ban and the scale of the fine reflect the seriousness of their corruption, others say the punishment is a slap on the wrist for an endemically corrupt political party manically driven by its media and fossil fuel industry owners towards omnicide.
The Liberals were found guilty of using the $100m community sport infrastructure fund to target marginal or Coalition electorates, with 43% of these being ineligible.
Despite vociferous denials, party leader Scott Morrison was in it up to his neck, with “direct” communications between Morrison’s office and the Minister in charge of the scheme, Bridget McKenzie, including at least 28 versions of the colour-coded spreadsheet which listed the sports grants by marginal seat.
Many had assumed the coal giant’s ban from the field of play would mean the Liverpool of ozpol, the Australian Labor Party, would become top dog.
Surprisingly, the Leicester City of our domestic political competition, the Australian Greens, have come from nowhere and their leader, Adam Bandt, is now Prime Minister.
