Protesters from Jakarta to Jaipur and Milan to Minsk are burning cars, smashing windows, and going on hunger strikes to show their outrage at the dumping of their beloved Australian Environment Minister.
The world was banking on the promise Scott Morrison made in the third leaders’ debate to reward Melissa Price for her hide-and-seek skills by retaining her as Environment Minister.
The fact that he has betrayed the global community’s trust so soon after the election was bound to lead to an intensity of international political protest the likes of which we haven’t seen since the Arab Spring.
While Jacinda Ardern’s actions in the wake of the Christchurch massacre garnered a worldwide outpouring of love and envy, not even Ardern compares to the special place in our hearts we all hold for Melissa Price.
Mr Morrison will need to act quickly if he is to prevent the furious reaction to this betrayal from cascading into a worldwide socialist revolution.
