Jacinda Ardern emotes for all of us.

The highly respected New Zealand Prime Minister has flashed Rupert Murdoch’s ambassador the bewildered and disapproving expression he deserves for spouting absolute drivel about families in front of the cameras while behind the scenes sabotaging efforts to call for the phase out of coal in the final communique.

She backed up her stern facial expression with some stern words:

“New Zealand, relative to other nations, has a relatively small emissions profile, however, if we all took the perspective that if you’re small it doesn’t matter, you wouldn’t see change. Every single little bit matters, that is why New Zealand has joined that international call, it is why we speak, I believe strongly on the world stage around these issues but ultimately we all have to take responsibility ourselves. My reference was to the fact that Australia has to answer to the Pacific – that is a matter for them.”

Not funny Scott.

Not funny Scott.

Meanwhile, Tuvalu’s Prime Minister Enele Sopoaga dismissed Clive Palmer envoy Scott Morrison’s efforts to buy Pacific silence on Australia’s climate criminality for $500 million as “immoral”.

After more than six years of Coalition Government, watching Ardern and Sopoaga at the Pacific Forum is a good opportunity for Australians to be reminded what political leadership looks like.
