Unprecedented.
Prime Minister Scott Morrison has shocked the nation by dropping the marketing spin for an entire sentence to tell a single truth, defying many of us who never thought we’d live to see it.
As progressives around the nation engaged in their Sunday morning ritualistic self-flagellation by switching on Sky News’ Insiders, Scott Morrison admitted “gas has chosen itself”.
What the PM meant, of course, is that his gas-executive-stacked COVID commission selected gas as the most promising energy pathway for Australia’s future, after careful consideration of all the reasons why gas is the best chuck out the rest.
Neville Power, Deputy Chair of a company targeting gas reserves in WA and SA, Andrew Liveris, board member of a Saudi Arabian oil and gas company, Catherine Tanna, Managing Director of the second largest climate polluter in the country, EnergyAustralia, and James Fazzino, board member of an energy infrastructure company which owns and operates the largest interconnected gas transmission network across the country, took an objective look at Australia’s energy future and concluded what we really need, like a nice big hole in the head, is “a massive expansion of the domestic gas industry – including helping open new fields and build hundreds of kilometres of pipelines”.
Though Morrison’s truth telling is somewhat surprising, this approach to the national interest is less so.
It’s hard to think of a better slogan for the Liberal Party’s 75-year history than “choosing itself”.
Funny that, when you stack your #covid committee with #gas/#FossilFuel vested interests you get just what you wanted @ScottMorrisonMP and gas "picks itself" - ignoring every #climtae, #energy & #economic expert in the co who says otherwise. #renewables #climatecrminials #auspol https://t.co/BZwRTwktRQ
