Incidentally, during Question Time Mr Turnbull got through a whole packet of Marlboro Reds.
Let us reflect on Isaiah 9:2 when it says “The people walking in darkness have seen a great light; on those living in the land of deep darkness a light has dawned”. As Malcolm Turnbull, after years of sophistry, finally admits there may be some link between tobacco and lung cancer as he tours rural and regional hospitals, there can be few more relevant biblical quotes with which to start a satirical article.
As a result of this Road to Damascus moment, the Prime Minister has leapt into action. Not only has he announced widespread land clearing to encourage Mum and Dad farmers to invest in tobacco farms, he’s also promised a further $10 billion in tobacco subsidies and a continued commitment to accepting hundreds of millions in political donations from Phillip Morris.
There’s no denying the Prime Minister’s commitment to the cause. Hugging a lung cancer patient at Dubbo Hospital on Friday, Mr Turnbull slipped a pack of Winnie Blues into her nightie.
