Morrison said Herr Hitler, wartime Japanese Prime Minister Hideki Tojo, and Byron Mayor Simon Richardson, have all posed grave threats to Australia’s national identity.
Hitler planned to divide Australia between Germany and Italy.
Hideki Tojo bombed Darwin and considered invading Australia.
Byron Mayor Simon Richardson said January 26 celebrations caused pain for Aboriginal communities and doubted whether this national day reflected Australian values of a fair go and mateship.
“Is it true mateship to willingly, willfully and continually celebrate what rightfully is great to be an Australian on a day that some Australians are pained by?"
