The Prime Minister has lashed out at Labor’s negative gearing plans, worried that the mum and dad investors he knows, like Twiggy, Gina and Rupert, will be hardest hit by Labor’s policy.
Calling Labor’s policy “unjust” (he actually called it that!), the PM cited the devastating impacts on ordinary Australian families of Labor’s plans to limit negative gearing to newly constructed homes.
“Let’s take Twiggy, he’s got three kids, Gina, she’s got four kids, and Rupert, he’s got seven kids! Can you imagine the effects of Labor’s plans on these Mum and Dad investors? How will any of them afford their 11th property?"
Asked whether public policy should aim to enrich the few at the expense of the many, Mr Turnbull said that was “beside the point”.
