It's always good to get the boss's permission.

The Prime Minister has vowed to call a double dissolution election for July 2, so long as the banks don’t mind.

Resolute as ever, Turnbull will check in with the heads of the big four banks to check if they have any qualms with the election date before visiting government house.

Asked why he needed to check with the banks first, Mr Turnbull said “The Westpac CEO had concerns the date clashed with a Pilates class while the Commonwealth chief thought a December poll would suit him better because he doesn’t like voting in the cold.”

He added “I’m sure all Australian workers can relate to the idea that you need to check with your boss first before you do something big like lose a double dissolution election.”
