Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull should be lauded for bravely tackling the two biggest challenges for Australia in the 21st century: how to build submarines so large and so slowly they will already be outdated by the time they hit the water, and how to help Christopher Pyne keep his job.

Meanwhile the PM has lambasted Labor's emissions trading schemes for destroying jobs and praised climate destruction for creating jobs in morgues and wall construction.

Some foggy headed idealists will argue $50 billion could go do a lot for hospitals, schools and renewable energy.

But what would such reckless spending say about the government’s ability to address the great submarine shortage Australians are so worried about?
