The AFP don’t have to violate civil liberties to keep Australians safe but they must have a TV and a Chomsky article about state terrorism.
Police have responded to the passing of the Federal Government’s encryption bill by saying such laws are totally unnecessary because all the most significant terrorist communications are broadcast live on national television from Canberra.
According to the Criminal Code Act 1995, a terrorist act is one “with the intention to coerce or influence the public by intimidation to advance a political, religious or ideological cause, and the act causes death, serious harm or endangers a person…”
An anonymous source inside the Australian Federal Police Counter-Terrorism Unit told Situation Theatre “By any objective measure what we witnessed yesterday in the Prime Minister’s press conference was a terrorist act. His aggressive assertion that providing sufficient medical treatment for suicidal children in offshore prisons would endanger public safety is a clear-cut case of intimidation to advance political ends resulting in serious harm.”
