Workers to become progressively poorer, women to earn progressively less compared to men, and millionaires to dodge progressively more tax.
Treasurer Josh Frydenberg has reassured both Leigh Sales and the Australian public that Australia’s tax system remains one of the most progressive in the world.
So progressive in fact one-third of large Australian corporations pay no tax.
So progressive that in 2016-2017, the top 10% of taxpayers paid their lowest share of tax since 2005-2006.
So progressive that the number of millionaire avoiding tax continues to rise.
So progressive out of 1,165 different occupations with both working men and women, just 124 had women earning a higher median salary or wage than their male counterparts, and most of those were lower paying jobs.
So progressive that a person earning $45,000 a year or more pays the same tax rate as someone on $200,000.
So progressive that millions of workers have their wages stagnate and the Coalition does nothing about it.
When you put it like that, this government is surely the most progressive Australia has ever had.
