Energy Minister’ Angus Taylor’s parliamentary inquiry into nuclear power shows the Government’s renewed focus on reducing rationality in public policy, re-using the same old bullshit arguments, and recycling every Howard Government folly.

If the Morrison Government isn’t stealing Howard’s lines like “Who do you trust…”, or re-enacting Howard’s knack for lying, or copying his foreign policy of following the U.S. into bewilderingly stupid wars, or similarly distracting everyone from multiple environmental and social crises and the plutocratic takeover of our democracy with daft culture wars, then they are recycling every ridiculous thought bubble from the Howard era.

How else to explain the renewed discussion of a dangerous, expensive, resource intensive and difficult to implement technology in a country that could easily become a world leader in renewable energy if only our Government was not entirely beholden to the fossil fuel industry.

Still, what else do you do when you’ve got no ideas of your own.
