Three baboons being transported to a major Sydney hospital, so the one with two partners could have a vasectomy, escaped from Gina Rinehart’s cage on Tuesday afternoon.
Three dangerous monkeys, Nationals MPs Matt Canavan, George Christensen, and Barnaby Joyce, usually held in captivity by mining billionaire Gina Rinehart, have briefly escaped near Sydney’s Prince Alfred Hospital.
The NSW Health Minister, Brad Hazzard, told Situation Theatre on Tuesday that the baboons were on their way to the animal research facilities at RPA from their colony, ruled by Hancock Prospecting.
“Barnaby Joyce was having a vasectomy because Gina couldn’t have him continuously breeding within the troop because it presents all sorts of genetic problems”, Mr Hazzard said.
The baboons were part of a colony bred to advance the interests of coal billionaires that has been thriving for about the last twenty years.
Animal Justice Party MP Emma Hurst said the baboons were "medical experimentation survivors" who had made an "escape attempt".
NSW Police said “We’re all for animal rights, but given they pose such a danger to the public, there is a case they should be put down.”
