If human rights abuses happen and Four Corners isn’t there to film them, do they make a sound?

The Prime Minister has assured an outraged Australian public that torture at Don Dale Youth Detention Centre is an isolated incident because that was the only footage he saw on Monday night.

Mr Turnbull said “Many human rights advocates are calling for the Royal Commission to be broadened to cover juvenile detention across Australia, and even children in immigration detention. Firstly, conditions in our immigration prisons are a national secret, you silly billies, as if I’m going to open them up to scrutiny. Secondly, unless Four Corners has shown me direct video evidence of horrific human rights abuses, I hardly think they are very likely to have occurred."

The PM also opposes a broader Royal Commission because “ignoring that many recommendations would be a bad look for me”.
