In an effort to boost his flagging popularity, Malcolm Turnbull is hitching his wagon to the rising star of Donald Trump.
Many have made comparisons between Abbott and Trump. With their shared project of legitimising and inciting the far right, and their common noxious brand of idiocy, such comparisons are commonplace.
But as the Prime Minister points out, Donald and Malcolm also have much in common.
“I have the greatest of respect for the way Donald can contradict everything he's ever said and still be ahead in the polls. It’s something I’ve been practising here in Australia and judging by the latest Fairfax poll, it’s going pretty well.”
