Who says Liberals don’t fund the arts?
Many of us have been missing live theatre during lockdown.
So it was a grateful public which turned up to NSW Police’s Theatre in the Park Winter Series for their first piece, Settler-Colonialism 2020, and boy it did not disappoint.
Daring, bold, and powerful, the work featured scores of terrifying masked mounted and regular riot police surrounding a towering statue of white totem Captain Cook.
Barring the time a mining company blew up a 46,000 year old sacred site around Reconciliation Week, it’s hard to name a live event which more accurately portrays Australia in 2020.
Judging by the costumes, weaponry and horses used in this production, no one need worry about arts funding in this country.
Despite patchy lighting and an unpleasant soundtrack, this truly was the kind of theatre you’ve come to expect from the Australian state.
