There’s nothing quite like a pandemic to put things in perspective, but being forced to reflect on just what a colossally corrosive waste of time the last twenty years of culture wars have been is one of the more painful symptoms of the novel coronavirus.
On the one hand, the answer to the age-old question “If Pauline Hanson says something in a pandemic and no one is around to care, does she still get a spot-on Sky News?” is still “she’s the best we can get”.
On the other, at least the coronavirus pandemic has many Australians asking “sorry, tell me again why we spent 20 years putting a racist moron on the tele every five minutes? Was that in the constitution or something?”
