“I’m wasting billions of taxpayers’ money and it’ll take Labor years to fix!”

Treasurer Josh Frydenberg has given an extraordinary interview with 730’s Leigh Sales overnight, lambasting himself for reckless spending.

Asked by Sales what he thought of his own recent economic stimulus packages, given his party’s decade-long attacks on Labor’s GFC spending, Mr Frydenberg said “Look Leigh, consistency is everything in politics. Over the years we’ve described the way Labor saved Australia from recession as a “debt and deficit disaster”, “wasteful”, “ill-disciplined”, a “desperate, one-off, short-term sugar hit or panicked crisis measure, here today, gone tomorrow”, a “reckless spending spree”, and an “overreaction”.

To suddenly turn around, spend more than Labor, and then to say something like “I’m not looking backwards, I’m looking forwards” when asked about this history, would be absolutely shameless. And that’s just not what the Morrison Government is all about.”
