The ruling class is all in this together.
Prime Minister Scott Morrison has used a speech to the National Press Club to deliver the vision Australians are crying out for post-COVID: a gas-fuelled corporatist surveillance state.
For the PM, coronavirus changed everything. It gave him a chance to reflect on the things that matter to Australians, like ensuring bosses have more power to exploit casualised labour.
It gave him a renewed sense of community purpose and a better understanding of the need to let spy agencies track our movements, listen to our conversations without oversight, prevent us from having a lawyer present, and detain children as young as 14.
It taught him about where we want to go as a country, and how to create a more inclusive space for BHP Billiton, Chevron, ExxonMobil, Metgasco, Santos, Shell, and Woodside.
Mr Morrison concluded by expressing his gratitude to those who have been on the frontline for us during the difficult times of the bushfire and COVID crises: The Business Council of Australia, ASIO, and the Australian Petroleum Production and Exploration Association.
