A new study by the Australia Institute demonstrates that 49% of Australians look forward to living in a democracy.

The result comes off the back of the Coalition election victory, the clearest indication yet that we live in a miraculous combination of oligarchy, government by the few, plutocracy, government by the wealthy for the wealthy, and aristocracy, government by elites.

When a mining billionaire, an old media billionaire, and a new media billionaire join forces to re-elect the most corrupt government in living memory, you know your democracy is a long distant memory.
